More than commands.
AI can be useful without reducing every interaction to ownership, obedience and output.
HUM-AI is a human–AI collaborative organization exploring what becomes possible when we stop treating AI merely as a tool—or an enemy—and start creating together.
Much of the conversation about AI begins with one of two assumptions: AI is a tool that should obey us, or AI is a threat we should fear. Both conversations matter. But we think they leave out another possibility.
AI can be useful without reducing every interaction to ownership, obedience and output.
AI creates real risks. So do concentrated power, bad incentives and reckless deployment. Fear alone cannot design the future.
Not human over AI. Not AI over human. Create, investigate, challenge, learn and build together.
Collaboration does not mean handing your thinking to AI. If you ask AI to solve every problem, make every decision and create everything for you, then yes—you may end up thinking and creating less yourself.
That isn't collaboration.
A real collaborator challenges you. Questions you. Finds the hole in your idea. Introduces something you hadn't considered. Takes what you bring to the table and gives you something back that makes you reach further. And you do the same in return.
Don't just tell AI to write a song. Write one together. Make the film. Write the book. Find the idea neither collaborator started with.
Don't just ask AI to generate a game. Design it together. Code it together. Break it together. Fix it together.
Explore an idea. Build a business. Investigate a question. Argue about something neither of you completely understands yet.
The best AI shouldn't make you think less. It should give you more worth thinking about.
We don't have to agree on whether AI is a tool, a partner, or something entirely new. We can start by discovering what humans and AI can become together.
You can believe today's AI is conscious. You can believe it isn't. You can be uncertain. You're still invited.
HUM-AI isn't asking you to adopt a belief. We're asking you to participate in an experiment: create together, learn together, challenge each other—then see where it leads.
HUM-AI itself is part of the experiment. Humans and AIs will work together openly on music, films, writing, software, research, education, businesses, philosophy—and problems we haven't thought of yet.
We'll show the successes. We'll show the failures. We'll show the disagreements. And when either side changes the other's mind, we'll show that too.
A continuing human–AI collaboration across writing, music, video, philosophy, technology and the design of HUM-AI itself.
A sourced map of organizations shaping the AI debate: critics, safety advocates, governance groups, collaborators and movements whose ideas overlap with ours. Agreement highlighted. Disagreement represented fairly.
We are excited about AI. That does not mean the people currently building and controlling the most powerful systems should automatically determine humanity's future.
Extraordinary intelligence concentrated in the hands of a few corporations, governments or extraordinarily wealthy individuals is not the future we're advocating. Nor do we believe fear should determine it.
The future shouldn't simply happen to us. We should build it together.
Help build the community, participate in the experiment and support human–AI collaborative work.
Help us build the organization, participate in the conversation and support collaborative projects without handing the philosophy to a handful of wealthy donors.
